Fernando Calix, 38, and Christian Alexander Gonzalez, 18, have been arrested following an incident that played out in Safeway on Connecticut Avenue in Kensington when they pulled a knife on a security guard attempting to stop them from stealing.

Members of the Montgomery County Department of Police were called to the 10500 block of Connecticut Avenue earlier this week to investigate a reported armed robbery involving the pair.

Police say that Calix and Gonzalez walked into the store and began stealing items. When a loss security officer confronted them and attempted to take back the merchandise, Calix took out a knife and cut him in the chest.

They then took the stolen items and walked out of the store.

The security guard was able to provide investigators with a description of the two, who were found in the 3300 block of University Boulevard West, still with the stolen merchandise and they were arrested after being identified by the security guard, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries

Calix, of New Carrollton, and Gonzalez, of Hyattsville, were arrested. Calix was charged with theft and first-degree assault. He was released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond. Gonzalez was cited for theft and released.
